Katie Barrus Awarded Dissertation Completion Fellowship

Wednesday, April 26, 2023

Graduate student Katie Barrus was awarded the College of Arts + Sciences Dissertation Completion Fellowship for 2023/2024. The 10-month fellowship will provide full support as Katie conducts her research and writes her dissertation.

Katie’s research focus is on policing, perceptions of police legitimacy, victim and witness cooperation with policy, and African American English.

During the Spring 2023 semester, Katie was the Instructor of Record for CJUS-P300 The Intersection of Language and Crime. As described in the syllabus, “This course serves as an introduction to forensic linguistics, or the application of linguistics within the legal settings, and takes a deep dive into how language is used from evidence to the courtroom.”
